Chevrolet’s biggest SUV is getting a major makeover for the 2025 model year. So when you see a Chevy Suburban for sale, expect a new look and plenty of new features inside and out. In fact, there are so many changes that it can be hard to keep track of, which is why we’ve put this guide together for you. Read on to learn about all of the upgrades and new additions you’ll get if you trade your vehicle in for a brand-new 2025 model.

Performance

With a full-size SUV like the Suburban, performance can make the difference between a helpful vehicle and a pain in the neck. While a large exterior is the only way to get a large interior that can seat up to eight with room left over for cargo, it can make driving difficult if it’s not paired with some solid engineering. The previous generation of the Suburban already offered a smooth drive across all trims, with available features like adaptive dampers and adjustable air suspension (which adjusts ride height automatically to match changing road conditions and improve aerodynamics), making drives even more enjoyable.

For the 2025 model, Chevy has refined the ride even further, re-calibrating the steering and suspension systems to improve driver confidence in all kinds of conditions and make the XL vehicle feel more nimble across all trim levels. Adjustable air suspension not only returns for the 2025 model year, but it has also become more accessible than before. In addition to being available on the luxurious High Country and rugged Z71 trims, it’s also available on the RST trim for the first time.

It’s becoming difficult to find a diesel engine under the hood of an SUV, which is a shame since diesel powertrains are both efficient and torque-heavy, making them great for towing for long distances. Instead of dropping its diesel from the lineup, Chevy has improved it for the 2025 Suburban. The second-generation 3.0L turbo-diesel Duramax I-6 is more powerful, raising horsepower and torque from 277 hp and 460 lb-ft to 305 hp and 495 lb-ft. It has also been thoroughly refined, with an improved cooling system and sound absorption materials to help it run quietly and avoid overheating, even when towing heavy loads on hot days.

Tech

The 2024 Suburban came standard with an 8-inch infotainment screen on the entry-level LS and featured a 10.2-inch one on higher trims. For 2025, things are different. Now, a best-in-class 17.7-inch touchscreen is standard fare across the lineup. This main screen, which is tilted toward the driver to provide the best view possible, is paired with an 11-inch driver information center behind the wheel. Between the two of them, it’s easy to keep track of any information you need, from diagnostics and safety warnings to music and climate control settings, and see camera views clearly, including HD Surround Vision, which is standard across the lineup.

Every trim also comes standard with Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, and Google Built-in, so you can fill those screens with the navigation, music, and podcast apps of your choice. Keeping your phone charged is easy too, and you don’t even need a cable to do it. The center console has been redesigned, making the wireless charging pad more convenient to use than ever.

Updated Cabin

The tech isn’t the only thing in the cabin that’s changed. The interior design has also been updated, with a new steering wheel design and a more sophisticated aesthetic across all trims of the Suburban. Black and chrome accents mingle with soft-touch surfaces to create a cabin that’s both high-class and cozy. Paired with the airy atmosphere of the spacious Suburban, it truly creates a space that’s downright pleasant to spend time in, even on longer drives.

Of course, you get even more style and personality when you upgrade to the higher levels. The eye-catching RST now offers bold red stitching that contrasts nicely with its Jet Black interior. The Premier trim now offers a Jet Black/Sky Cool Gray color combo that’s unique yet elegant. But the top-tier High Country has them all beat, with a layout that brings authentic wood décor to the Suburban for the first time. This pairs nicely with the perforated leather seats and exclusive Jet Black/Mocha colorway. Together, they make the High Country stand out and feel deeply luxurious.

Exterior Style

If you keep all of the style on the inside of the Suburban, how are you going to make a good impression? Don’t worry—the new model has plenty of aesthetic upgrades on the exterior, too. Each trim has its own unique take on the new design, helping drivers to stand out from the crowd with an exclusive look. All trims are enhanced by bolder lighting that’s more modern but still harkens back to Chevy tradition with its dual C-shaped headlights. Daytime running lights are slim but prominent, giving the new Suburban a unique personality. There are also new lighting animations that give the SUV a futuristic feel and add a delightful touch to the experience of entering and exiting the vehicle.

Two new exterior paint colors join the list of options for the 2025 model year. Cypress Gray is a subtle shade that’s at home wherever you go while Lakeshore Blue Metallic has a little more flair and is sure to make a splash. There are also eye-catching new wheel designs, with options up to 24-inches, to complement the rest of the exterior and act as the cherry on top when it comes to the Suburban’s style.

Towing Features

The Suburban is a fantastic vehicle for moving cargo. Not only does it have plenty of space in its cavernous interior, but it also has a stout towing capacity that lets you bring a heavy trailer along for the ride. With the right configuration, you can tow up to 8,200 lbs with the 2025 Suburban. But towing a heavy trailer can be difficult or even dangerous in the wrong conditions, which is why the new model comes loaded with new features designed to help you tow smart and enhanced versions of features that were already available in years past. You can use these features to keep track of the health of your trailer’s tires to avoid blowouts, get step-by-step instructions for launching and retrieving boats on boat ramps, move forward safely with guidelines helping you keep track of the width of your trailer, and navigate just about anywhere with a built-in map system that calculates routes based on the size of your trailer. Plus, with the mobile trailering app, you can access your vehicle’s load rating and other information at any time and any place.

You Can Teach an Old Nameplate New Tricks

The Suburban has the honor of being the longest-running nameplate in American history, having first rolled off the production lines back in 1935. The reason that this SUV is still around and impressing modern drivers is that it has changed with the times through redesigns and new additions that have made it more capable, comfortable, and convenient over the years. This latest round of upgrades is part of a long tradition, one that will hopefully continue into the future for decades to come.
