Chevrolet Warranties You Should Know About

You have options when choosing a seller from whom to purchase a new (or new-to-you) vehicle. Not all sellers are created equal, though. There are some distinct advantages to buying your vehicle, new or used, from a Chevy dealership. One of those advantages is the opportunity to get one (or more) Chevy warranties.

Extended Limited Warranty

Brand new Chevy vehicles come with a standard 3-year/36,000-mile limited Chevy warranty. If that’s not enough coverage for you, you can always ask us about our Chevy extended limited warranty. This warranty offers 5-year/60,000-mile coverage. It’s backed by General Motors and is only available at the time of purchase for new vehicles. This Chevy extended limited warranty includes coverage for warranted repairs of parts, labor, and defects in materials and workmanship. With a $0 deductible and the option for full transference to subsequent owners, it’s a warranty well worth considering.

Parts Warranty

There are many different parts that work together to make a car work. If those parts stop working properly, so will the car. A Chevy parts warranty can help. At Riverton Chevrolet, you can choose between three different levels of warranty: a 24-month/unlimited-mile limited warranty, a limited lifetime warranty, and a 12-month unlimited warranty.

These warranties are good for their entire term, provided you are the original purchaser and that you own the eligible vehicle which parts covered by the warranty were originally installed on. To use the warranty, you must go to a Chevy, Buick, GMC, or Cadillac dealership and show a copy of the original repair order. This order must prove that one of the named dealerships previously replaced the warranty-eligible part.

However, keep in mind that some things are NOT covered by these Chevy parts warranties: fluids or additional parts needed to complete the installation; damage caused by improper installation, alteration, or the part being struck by an object; damage caused by using a coolant or coolant mixture that isn’t in line with the vehicle’s warranty; using a part in a way not specified by General Motors; and inconvenience, loss of time or use, or other incidental or consequential damages.

Bumper-to-Bumper Limited Warranty

The need for repairs isn’t always just limited to mechanical parts. That’s where Chevy’s bumper-to-bumper limited warranty comes into play. This warranty is good for 3 years or 36,000 miles, whichever comes first. It covers parts and labor for repairs to the whole vehicle due to defects in the materials or workmanship. It also includes tire coverage that protects you from workmanship or material defects (but not the normal wear and tear–that’s not a defect) and towing to the nearest dealership for warranty-related repairs.

Despite what the name might suggest, a bumper-to-bumper warranty doesn’t cover absolutely everything. That’s why it’s a limited warranty. This warranty doesn’t cover things like routine maintenance, normal characteristics of the vehicle like slight noise or vibrations, or damage due to accidents, alterations, misuse, or inadequate maintenance. It also doesn’t cover parts that normally wear out on vehicles, like windshield wipers, key fob batteries, and brake pads.

Powertrain Limited Warranty

No vehicle will work without its powertrain. Because it’s so essential and so expensive to repair, some buyers like the extra peace of mind provided by a Chevy powertrain limited warranty. This warranty covers components included in the engine, drive system, transmission or transaxle, and transfer case. Routine maintenance and components such as cooling lines, hoses, sensors, connectors, wiring, radiators, and coolant are not included in this warranty. Like other warranties, the Chevy powertrain limited warranty covers repairs needed due to material and workmanship defects, including the cost of parts and labor. Most powertrain limited warranties are good for 5 years or 60,000 miles, whichever comes first. If that timeframe doesn’t work for you, you may be able to find other warranty durations that better fit your needs.

Having a Chevy warranty on your new vehicle is a great way to get some added peace of mind–and peace of mind is always worth it. You can drive away knowing you’re covered if something goes wrong. As with all other aspects of buying your vehicle, carefully read the details for your warranty.
